Wrightslaw Special Education and Advocacy Conference with Peter Wright, Esq. Montgomery, Alabama, January 17, 2008
As of October 1, 2007 all questions related to IDEA and the education of children with disabilities should be directed to the new Parent Training and Information (PTI) Center for the state, Alabama Parent Center. You may reach them at www.alabamaparentcenter.com or by calling 334-567-2252 or toll-free in Alabama 866-532-7660.
Parent Training and Information (PTI) Centers in each state provide training and information to parents of infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities and to professionals who work with children. This assistance helps parents to participate more effectively with professionals in meeting the educational needs of children and youth with disabilities. The Parent Centers work to improve educational outcomes for children and youth with all disabilities (emotional, learning, mental, and physical).
Parent centers serve families of children and young adults from birth to age 26 with all disabilities: physical, cognitive, emotional, and learning. They help families obtain appropriate education and services for their children with disabilities; work to improve education results for all children; train and inform parents and professionals on a variety of topics; resolve problems between families and schools or other agencies; and connect children with disabilities to community resources that address their needs.
Parents As Partners in Education provides a free email newsletter to help parents receive the information they need to be involved in their child's education and to help provide professionals the information they need to improve the education for all children in Alabama.
